"We are what ballads are written of, what bards sing of. We are epic."
Some days feel made for film. Sarah and Lee's wedding at Mt Norquay, high above Banff, was one of them: wide valley views, moody Rocky Mountain skies, a wedding party with energy to spare, and a celebration that carried on well into the night.
Mount Norquay: a Banff wedding with a view
Mt Norquay gives you the whole Bow Valley at your feet. Portraits on the open slopes, the town of Banff and the mountains behind, umbrellas ready for the weather and a wedding party that was all in. Inside, the lodge turned warm and glowing for toasts, first dances and a full dance floor.
Shooting a cinematic mountain wedding film
We captured it to feel like a film rather than a highlight reel: real moments, natural light, and the scale of the mountains. I also got to shoot this one side by side with my daughter Bella (@bellakzak), and a lot of my favourite clips are hers. If you're planning a Banff, Canmore or Calgary wedding and want video that tells the story this way, I'd love to hear from you.
